SuperData: Digital games generated $6.2bn worldwide in February
Digital game sales were up ten per cent year-on-year this February, reaching a total value of $6.2b (£4.4bn).
That’s according to research firm SuperData, which reports that digital console games saw the largest growth – 34 per cent year-on-year. Console also saw a 27 per cent growth in audience.
New game sales fell 180,000 units, which SuperData blames on a lack of major new releases in February 2016 than 2015.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III topped the console chart due to the launch of its first round of DLC – Awakening. FIFA’s position at second place is the result of the popularity of its FIFA Ultimate Team mode.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive heads up the PC DLC Top Five, while Riot’s MOBA giant League of Legends holds No.1 in the free-to-play MMO ranks.
Below are SuperData’s Top Five charts for the games space in February 2016:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III
2. FIFA 16
3. Grand Theft Auto V
4. Madden NFL 16
5. Fallout 4
