      2011
-11/8/11 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is released

-(3 days later) 11/11/11 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Sets All-Time Record for the Biggest Entertainment Launch with More than $400 Million in North America and United Kingdom Sales Alone

« biggest entertainment launch ever with an estimated sell-through of more than $400 million and more than 6.5 million units in North America and the United Kingdom alone in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Charttrack and retail customer sell-through information” – Press Release Link

      2012
-11/12/12 Call of Duty Black Ops II is released

-(4 days later) 11/16/12 Call Of Duty: Black Ops II Delivers More Than $500 Million In Worldwide Retail Sales In First 24 Hours

“Call of Duty: Black Ops II has achieved an estimated sell-through of more than $500 million worldwide in the first 24 hours of its release, according to Chart-Track, retail customer sell-through information and internal company estimates” – Press Release Link

      2013
-11/5/13 Call of Duty Ghosts is released

-(1 day later) 11/6/13 Activision Sells More Than $1 Billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into Retail Worldwide as of Day One

“the company sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one” – Press Release Link

      2014
-11/3/2014 Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is released

-(11 days and counting) so far no press release on Call of Duty sales

There is no doubt this year’s Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is a better quality game than last year’s Call of Duty Ghosts. The new three-year development cycle for Call of Duty instead of the previous two-year cycle is already paying dividends. Gamer sentiment and the critical assessment from reviewers is much more positive than last year.

Sledgehammer did a great job with the story campaign and added much needed movement innovations, which also makes the multi-player a more fun experience. It will be interesting sales-wise to see if the better quality of this year’s game will win out over the damage last year’s Ghosts did to the Call of Duty brand. Only time will tell.

Note: I reached out to Activision for comment on the absence of a Call of Duty sales press release this year after launch. Activision said “no comment.”
